As our country moves through difficult times, the Richmond Hill Veterans Monument is a visible and important way to show our support for those who have fought to make it the great land it has become.
On November 13, 2004, the Mayor and City Council of Richmond Hill unveiled the Veterans Monument in J.F. Gregory Park. In attendance were state officials, county personnel, various veteran organizations, and numerous supporters of the project. A diverse group of local sponsors have made sizable donations to the Veterans Monument Fund and enable the city to honor American Heroes.
The monument is to honor those who have fought for freedom and given Americans the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world. Recognizing the importance of veterans and their contributions is just one aspect of the Veterans Monument. The monument honors all Americans who have served their country. Each slab of granite represents a war fought by the United States in the last 100 years.
· World War I 1914 - 1918 · World War II 1939 - 1945 · Korean War 1950 - 1953
· Vietnam War 1961 - 1975 · Gulf War 1991
· War on Terrorism / Operation Iraqi Freedom 2001
Another aspect of the Veterans Monument is the ability to buy personalized bricks to honor the contributions of friends and family. Personalized bricks are added to the monument periodically. If you are interested in purchasing a Veterans Monument Brick, making a donation, or purchasing a brick for Third Infantry Division killed in action, please contact the City of Richmond Hill at (912) 756-3345 or purchase a brick online.
